Introduction to Mechanical Designing

      The discussion on designing starts with a simple question, "What is a design?". The answer is simple, design is an imagination which is maneuvered. It is basically the next stage of imagination.

     Design in any field is of prodigious importance.Referring to some examples, a fashion designer can only be successful if her drawings has some creativity and glamour in them. Similarly if an engineer doesn't have accuracy in his drawings, his designs will turn into garbage. The further discussion will focus on the technical design and would enhance the designing skills of audience.

Technical design:-

There are several aspects in technical design, which are to be mastered:

  • Drawing
  • 3D modelling
  • Materializing
  • Analysis
  • Redesign
  • Final design
      Beginning with the first aspect drawing(sketching) that is representing a 3D model on paper using 3 different views, which is taught in first year of engineering. In this post we will be learning to sketch in modelling software's and further we will continue with the next aspects. Giving a glimpse of software's, we have 
  1. Autocad
  2. NX
  3. Solidworks
  4. Pro-e
  5. Catia
  6. Solid edge etc.
      We are using "NX" software for the design process. The remaining software's are similar to NX, but with kinds of GUI. Once you are familiar with one software,you can easily use others. In the next post we will see how to install NX 10 in your windows.
